Athletic News! Big Red Weekend Recap: The snow and winter weather definitely made its impact on this weekend's athletic events as we saw several events get cancelled on Saturday. A few of our teams were able to get their events in over the weekend so it wasn't a complete wash out. The JV and Varsity boys basketball teams got the weekend started on Friday by traveling to St. Paul and both saw tough losses to the Flyers. The varsity once again came out on the road and battled another one of the league's top teams from start to finish. St. Paul maintained a small lead for the majority of the game while the Big Red battled and stayed within striking distance. They were able to cut the lead to 1 point late in the game and had the ball in waning seconds of the game and had a shot for the win with 2 seconds remaining in the game but it did not fall and the Flyers survived with a 47-46 win over the Big Red. The Big Red drop to 5-6 overall and 2-4 in league play and will be back in action on Thursday this week at Western Reserve. The varsity girls basketball team was also able to get their Saturday afternoon game in hosting Lucas. After a fast start by the Lady Big Red and jumping out to a 12-6 lead they would a hold a 14-13 lead at the half over the Cubs. Offense was hard to come by in the 2nd half as Lucas took a lead and continued to build it throughout the half and the Lady Big Red could not get the offense going consistently and would eventually fall to the Cubs by a 42-29 final score. They fall to 5-8 overall on the season and will be back in action on Friday night at Mapleton. The MS wrestling team also was in action on Saturday at the South Central Invite and had a strong day as a team. Jayce Rogers led the way with a 1st place finish in his weight class while Clayton Tabor finished as a runner-up. Levi Foley took 3rd, Scott Schriner took 4th, and Bentley Meade took 6th to round at the scoring as they finished in 8th place as a team. They will be back in action on Saturday this weekend at New London's Randy Harner Invite.

Athletic News! Big Red Recap: The MS boys basketball teams returned to action on Thursday night by traveling to Monroeville to take on the Eagles. Both teams lost as the 7th grade struggled from start to finish and lost by a big margin while the 8th grade battled in a close game and dropped a tough one by one point to the Eagles. Both teams will be back in action tomorrow morning hosting New London at 9am. The JV and Varsity girls were also in action hosting South Central in conference play. The JV team battled in a two quarter game falling by a 13-6 final score. The Lady Big Red varsity came out firing in the 1st quarter running out to an early 9-0 lead that they would hold at the end of the 1st quarter. It was tough sledding on the offensive end for the remainder of the game though as it became a defensive battle that eventually saw a 12-12 tie going into the 4th quarter. The Lady Big Red finally found some offense again in the 4th quarter and would pull away to the 25-16 win over the Trojans for their fourth victory in a row. They improve to 5-7 overall on the season and 4-4 in conference play. They will be right back in action tomorrow afternoon hosting Lucas in a varsity only contest.

Big Red Recap: The JV and Varsity boys basketball teams hosted Bucyrus last night in a non-conference matchup. Both games were close low scoring affairs that went down to the wire. The JV team came back from an early deficit to win in overtime by a score of 43-39. The Varsity game was then a low scoring defensive battle as both teams struggled on offense from both the field and free throw line. The game never saw more than a 5 point advantage from either team as the Big Red were able to hang on for a 41-38 win over the Redman. Big Red Family! Today is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day 2025! "Law Enforcement Officers of every rank and file have chosen a profession that puts their life on the line every day for their communities. They’ve answered a call to public service that is demanding and often unappreciated. From local, state, and federal, their duties command dedication. The jobs are often thankless and take them away from their families for long hours. Rarely do they know what their days have in store for them. Often law enforcement are the only paid emergency resource a community has. More often they work in coordination with other local, state, and federal organizations to make communities safer. On National Law Enforcement Day, we have an opportunity to thank them for their service and offer a token of respect." - nationaldaycalendar.com Thank you to our local law enforcement and specifically our Resource Officers here at the schools! 🤩
