Big Red Weekend Recap:
The snow and winter weather definitely made its impact on this weekend's athletic events as we saw several events get cancelled on Saturday. A few of our teams were able to get their events in over the weekend so it wasn't a complete wash out. The JV and Varsity boys basketball teams got the weekend started on Friday by traveling to St. Paul and both saw tough losses to the Flyers. The varsity once again came out on the road and battled another one of the league's top teams from start to finish. St. Paul maintained a small lead for the majority of the game while the Big Red battled and stayed within striking distance. They were able to cut the lead to 1 point late in the game and had the ball in waning seconds of the game and had a shot for the win with 2 seconds remaining in the game but it did not fall and the Flyers survived with a 47-46 win over the Big Red. The Big Red drop to 5-6 overall and 2-4 in league play and will be back in action on Thursday this week at Western Reserve.
The varsity girls basketball team was also able to get their Saturday afternoon game in hosting Lucas. After a fast start by the Lady Big Red and jumping out to a 12-6 lead they would a hold a 14-13 lead at the half over the Cubs. Offense was hard to come by in the 2nd half as Lucas took a lead and continued to build it throughout the half and the Lady Big Red could not get the offense going consistently and would eventually fall to the Cubs by a 42-29 final score. They fall to 5-8 overall on the season and will be back in action on Friday night at Mapleton.
The MS wrestling team also was in action on Saturday at the South Central Invite and had a strong day as a team. Jayce Rogers led the way with a 1st place finish in his weight class while Clayton Tabor finished as a runner-up. Levi Foley took 3rd, Scott Schriner took 4th, and Bentley Meade took 6th to round at the scoring as they finished in 8th place as a team. They will be back in action on Saturday this weekend at New London's Randy Harner Invite.
