Athletic News! Big Red Recap: The MS boys basketball teams returned to action on Thursday night after a long break by hosting Monroeville. They came away with a split with the Eagles as the 7th grade won an exciting game in OT by a score of 26-23 before the 8th grade lost 66-38. Both teams will be right back in action tomorrow morning at New London. The varsity girls were also in action at home hosting South Central in a varsity only contest. It was another nip and tuck battle all night between the Lady Big Red and Trojans as the Lady Big Red would avenge their season opening loss to the Trojans with a 35-31 win. The Lady Big Red grabbed an early lead and would onto a small lead for most of the game. The Trojans tied the game for the 1st time at 30-30 with a basket late in the game before the Big Red would make some timely plays down the stretch to seal the win. They improve to 2-11 overall and 1-7 in league play and will be off until next Wednesday when they travel to Lucas.

Just a quick note to remind our Plymouth-Shiloh Families that we are happy to accept pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. Please read the information that PHS Alumni Lexi Surgener shared: “We are delighted to announce that we are collecting tabs for the Ronald McDonald House charity. You may be wondering what the purpose of collecting these tabs is. The tabs are recycled and the proceeds from the recycling process are utilized to offset the utility expenses of the Ronald McDonald House. This organization provides accommodation to families with children undergoing medical treatment in hospitals, serving as a home away from home for numerous families worldwide. Our family has personally benefited from their services during a challenging time when our child was born and required medical attention. We kindly request that you take a moment to collect tabs from beverage cans, canned goods, and pet food cans, as even a single tab can make a significant difference. Thank you all for your continuous support. “

Big Red Recap:

It was a girls basketball Monday night as the MS hosted one combined game with South Central while the JV and Varsity hosted Western Reserve. The MS team lost a one point heartbreaker to the Trojans after a basket by the Trojans with 7 seconds left in the game gave them the lead and the win. The MS girls will be right back in action tonight at Monroeville in one combined game.

The JV and Varsity hosted Western Reserve with the JV losing a 2 quarter game to get the night started. The varsity game was a close battle all night as Western Reserve took an early lead and would lead all game but never by more than two possessions until late in the 4th quarter. The Lady Big Red would keep the game close and within one or two possessions the whole game but could not get over the hump to take a lead. It was a one point deficit heading into the 4th quarter for the Big Red but Western would go on a small run in the middle of the quarter to extend the lead and would end up defeating the Lady Big Red by a 38-31 final score. The Big Red drop to 1-11 overall on the season and 0-7 in league play and will be back in action on Thursday when they host South Central.

Winter Break Recap:

January is here and our Big Red winter sports teams are geared up for the remainder of the season after the holiday break. While a few of our teams did not see any game action over break several of our teams did and our varsity teams were very busy with several games and events over break. Here is a quick recap of how each team fared over break!

The Lady Big Red basketball team played 3 games over the break all on the road at Crestview, St. Paul, and Black River in that order. The Varsity went 1-2 in that stretch as they notched the win column for the first time this season on Saturday with a 45-41 win over Black River. The win followed losses to Crestview (51-23) and St. Paul (47-31) and improves them to 1-10 overall on the season. The JV was able to play 2, 2 quarter games over the break against Crestview and Black River and also picked up a win at Black River by a score of 11-7. Both teams will be back in action tonight hosting Western Reserve with JV playing a 2 quarter game starting at 6pm.

The Big Red boys basketball team played two big league games over break and came away with nice victories in both of those; first taking down New London 53-40 on December 27th and then followed that up with a road win over Crestview on Saturday by a score of 58-52. Those wins keep the Big Red in first place in the firelands conference with a 6-2 overall record and 5-0 in league play. The JV boys went 1-1 in that stretch with a win over New London and a loss to Crestview. Both teams will be back in action on Wednesday at Bucyrus before hosting St. Paul on Friday.

The Big Red wrestling team was busy over the break as they traveled to the 2 day Marion Harding Invite before hosting our annual Plymouth Invite on Saturday here at PHS. Seniors Thomas Winegarder and Ben Trimmer led the way for the Big Red in both events as both placed in the very tough 46 team Marion Harding Invite with Thomas taking 6th and Ben taking 8th. Then after celebrating senior day on Saturday before the home Invite they both had strong days on their home mats as Thomas brought home a 1st place finish while Ben lost a tough match in the championship round to take 2nd place. Lucas Distl, Cortez Hernandez, Parker Miller, Isaiah Miller, and Anthony Moore all also placed on Saturday at the home Invite. They will have a week off before traveling to Mapleton's Dave Rohr Invite on January 17th.

The MS wrestling team was also in action twice as they competed in the Bucyrus tournament before traveling to Norwayne for the Cat Classic on Saturday. They are competing hard and making strides with some strong individual performances. They will be back in action this Saturday at the South Central Invite.
